Kodagu soldier dies in Jammu and Kashmir

PONNAMPET: A soldier from Kodagu reportedly died in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. His body is expected to be brought to his native village near here in a couple of days.

K.C. Tilak (31), son of Kechamada Chittiappa and Muthamma, residents of Hysodlur village, who was serving in the MEG for the past 11 years, was transferred recently to Jammu and Kashmir and was serving in the Drass Sector.

He had come home in July last and had written a letter after returning that he would be visit them on Feb. 25.

According to MEG officials,who contacted Tilak's residence over telephone, he was caught under a avalanche while on duty on Feb. 4 morning at the Drass Sector.

Though Tilak's family hoped that the news could be wrong, another telephone yesterday confirmed the sad news.

Tilak was unmarried and leaves behind his parents, sister Rekha and brother K.C. Suresh. Shifting of his body is being delayed due to the bad weather.
