MADIKERI: C. Somashekar, Director of the Department of Tourism, said on Monday that the State Government had agreed to release Rs. 1 crore for tourism development in Kodagu.
He was interacting with presspersons at the Kodagu Press Club here. Funds were released following a proposal seeking Rs. 2.50 crore by the Kodagu Tourism Development Committee some time ago, he said.
Tourist sites proposed to be developed included Gaddige mausoleums, the Raja Seat, Nalnad Palace and Honnamanakere, Dr. Somashekar said. The Government had released Rs. 33 lakh for the construction of a Kodava Heritage Centre in five acres of land at Karnangeri village near here, besides Rs. 25 lakh for a hanging bridge near Kotebetta.
