What is special about Alathcad Estate Holiday Home?

It was Kodagu's first home stay!

...The Alathcad estate bungalow is a century old Coorg bungalow with all modern amenities, situated 3,500 ft above sea level in the Coorgi heartland of Ammathi. The majestic bungalow, enveloped by 75 acres of lush green coffee and pepper plantations, is a 230-km drive from Bangalore and 105 km from Mysore.

Kannu Muddaiah, a proud daughter of Coorg, is a good reason why Coorg could be a traveller’s home away from home. A stalwart of the Kodava old guard, she will regale you with stories about old Coorg and the mighty mortals who lived there. And, give you spiritual leads on the temples worth visiting. (read more)

homestay as a concept in Kodagu finds its roots way back in the late 70s-early 80s and actually quite by accident...those days accomodation in Kodagu meant Madikeri..but there were the odd adventure traveller and foreign tourist stumbling across the kerala border to discover kodagu in its forests and hills rather than the typical touristy places serviced by Madikeri...these folks needed modest acco. for a night or more in the area they were trekking or exploring..what better place than the estate homes or estate 'lines' or tribal keris even...safe,clean and adding to the experience and definitely not touristy...
a regular haunt for such adventurers in those days was the Palace Estate in Kakkabe at the foothills of Tadiyandamol...many a treking expedition and soul-seearching foreigner have got acco. there though more thru the kind hospitality of the hosts rather than any business need..ofcourse palace estate is now a thriving homestay as we know homestays now(palaceestate.co.in)

Homestay as a commercial enterprise soliciting custom is a relatively new industry..it may have started with Alathcad or some other(though even this is not verifiable in a disorganised sector)..but as a concept the one above is the oldest as I could remember..ofcourse they may be older ones predating this I havent heard of..

Cheers!

Thanks for that bit of info. As they say, "necessity is the mother of invention".
