Mahindra “Great Destruction” Rally?

MADIKERI: It was an exhilarating, yet daring drive through the treacherous terrain of the district for rally drivers participating in the 51st Mahindra Great Escape Rally that was flagged off from a resort near here on Saturday.

The event not only tested drivers’ efficacy at manoeuvring through slippery roads, negotiating heights and passing through rivulets, but also the endurance of their vehicles. Over 300 participants from Goa, Mumbai and Karnataka drove through the designated route before regrouping at the resort. A few locals also participated. (more)

Now, read about the ‘great achievements’ of the rally:

1. A resident of Mukkodlu has lodged a complaint with the police stating that rally vehicles trespassed into his property, causing damage to paddy fields and roads.

2. Some allege that beer bottles were thrown into paddy fields and in some places the bottles were broken. It is said the school children do walk through the same roads and the organizers have shown utmost carelessness and have thrown rules to the wind.

3. A family had to threaten the merry-making rally drivers with a gun to stop them from creating ruckus in their property.

If this is the case, ban the Mahindra Great Escape Rally from Kodagu, I would say

Coorgs have made mahindras rich by buying their jeeps...over years. Mahindra have to be thankful for that. Think such rally should not be allowed in coorg in future as it troubles normal life of people...if i have to face such problem in my property i would not hold back....!!

M & M hope u guys are listening

Gas Guzzling SUVs and Great destruction rally disturbing the peace and tranquility of the land. Phew! What a adventure...

I would say adventure/fun on somebody's cost is irresponsibility from a respected brand like MAHINDRA..

WE DONT WANT A GREAT ESCAPE, WE WANT TO ESCAPE FROM Mahindra Great Escape Rally..

Its funny how people react in such extremes....thats a problem with us...why think of a ban without looking at a solution ?. These things happen and the question is can it be corrected ?

First, let them investigate what went wrong and take action to correct it. Second, they have to take responsibility of getting the required permissions, take care of damages etc. If these are not acceptable to Mahindra, then the next step is probably not allow it.

You have a valid point. Kodagu was full of MM 540s at one stage.

Mahindra or organizers must make sure not to hurt local sentiments.

Overreacting? Mahindra organizes these rallies all over India, and they should be well aware of these intricacies. With their vibrant CSR policies, they should be role models and not otherwise.

Banning is not a overreaction. Coorgs dont have to be troubled for entertaining outsiders !!
