this is what people will do if we keeping selling land to outsiders. request all kodava's to make all efforts to stop this trend now. its not too late.
Why is it I am sensing a "taliban" mentality among some of our Kodavas? Do we really want to regress to our outdated traditions and customs? It is time to move on with the times and as we do that it is up to us to set the path for the future. The 19th century Kodavas did not follow all the 18th century traditions and the 20th century Kodavas did not follow all the 19th century traditions. So, why should we be different?
Hello mr Anonym,it is the land of kodavas,what the hell r u talking about 18th,19th,20th century,tho they did not follow they did not deviate themself from there culture,bloody outsiders come into coorg for there beenift not preserve things the way they are.In the name of modernisiation people should not loose there identity,and only a few places have retained it and kodava and kodag/ Coorg is one such place,and now people from outside in the name of Kodag/Coorg and spoiling the Land Heritage and also bringing the influnce of there culture into the place,always a place will be better off if it retains its own identity,and resorts coming up for the benifit of tourism is a mode of commercialision and not a development, and what the heck r u talking about talibanisiation,we are trying to protect our identity which can be done only if you have your own native land,if that is not there the entire identity of that is lost.first understand the diffrence between culture,heritage,inheritence,langauage and commercialisiation and development, one small thing i want to ask you if not kodag/coorg,which place on earth can be your motherland there is nomore kodag in india nor in the world and hence to retain that kodag,it is important to have our land with us so we can retain the identity of kodag,if a out sider buys land where a native of that place has inhibited over a period of time it turns out be a immigrant of that place who whould influnce his culture in that perticular place where he has purchased the land and that will be the saddist part in humankind for the extent of a perticular indiginious culture hence land has a direct relition of maintaining the identity of the perticular place, hope this highlightens your mindset and dontever talk in a careless manner with regard to traditions and culture of the place and keep your blood currupted mind which has thoughts of mordenisation in terms of imitating the urban/western sorry not western atlest they have maintained there place and identity, i wanted to mention america in perticular where bloody people like you try to follow and in the process sell yourself to them in the name of mordernisation of that place,hence we kodavas would like to retain our land to retain our identity as kodava landfor that place.

i just have a question....i am a coorgie....if a coorgie can buy a apartment or a house in bangalore,mysore or abroad....can't an outsider buy a land in coorg....lets be fair....Than sitting here and just commenting in blogs or showing ur frustrations in blogs....think real.Most of the population in coorg is outside....i mean the youngsters...where in coorg can you pursue a career once u r educated.gimme a decent job in coorg i will be in coorg.....i dont have a estate.....The funny part here is the guy who owns this blog stays in muscat and the most people who comment on this blog are in bangalore or mysore.I am a Indian first...after which i am a coorgie or a gowda, or etc.....BE PROUD OF UR COUNTRY FIRST ,Other than this u guys want to discriminate ........Phew..If u guys want to safegauard ur culture comeback to coorg,work in ur estates,,,,or work in coorg.adella buttith talibans ra madri kalikathi,,,,dammaya.....wtf

Well, Mr. Anonymous, your diatribe speaks for itself. If you confuse "modernization" with "westernization" then I can't help it. Also, you do seem to be more western than you realize. It shows in your use of anglo phrases such as "what the hell r u", "bloody", etc., in your language.
As a Kodava I am proud to think that the "earth" is my motherland and I proudly carry my Kodava tradition and culture wherever I am, be it in Mysore, Bangalore, the middle east, Australia or the Americas, always absorbing what I feel as good from those cultures. That way my children will have a much richer Kodava culture to inherit. After all, civilized cultures and traditions have never been static, they are always dynamic.
If a Kodava is born and grew up in Bangalore, he/she can be as proud of Bangalore as much as a Kodava born in Kodagu. That does not mean that the Bangalore Kodava is any less (or better) than a Kodagu Kodava. In the same vein, a non-Kodava can be as proud of Kodagu as any other Kodava. Remember that Kodagu has and had many other ethnic groups (some of whom may be much more earlier settlers than the Kodavas) in addition to the Kodavas.
If the point of this conversation is to preserve the environmental beauty of Kodagu, don't mix it with "Kodava only" heritage and culture issue. It has to be a cooperative effort between all cultures and traditions who value nature and it's beauty, be it in Kodagu or elsewhere.
Just like a Kodava businessman in Bangalore retains his heritage and work for the betterment of Bangalore, a non-Kodava should be able to live in Kodagu and have an opportunity to work for the betterment of Kodagu. Movements and thinking such as "Kodagu for Kodavas" is not conducive to this. It is wrong to think that even if Kodagu is inhabited by only Kodavas, either Kodavas or Kodagu would be any better. Kodavas should be able to go anywhere in the world and thrive and in the same way anyone in the world should be able to come to Kodagu and thrive. This is the modern human spirit.
May be all this back and forth conversation is a waste of time. Better to respectfully agree to disagee!!

Wish to comment on anonymous 2. Taking pride in being a Kodava to preserve our land & culture is a virtue we have been thought from childhood. This has made the person whom I am today. I believe if this pride is not instilled in every Kodava, he / she would not understand what anonymous 1 was saying. You don’t become Taliban by preserving and passing on your culture and land to your future generations. This is the least we are expected to do. I have heard such bald talks of modernization from Kodava who have already sold their lands and temples to settle elsewhere. This is a set of people who find it difficult to take pride in keeping Kodagu for Kodava’s. I dont agree with the comment that Kodava’s working outside need to go back to preserve culture. In most cases working outside is a means to channelize resources for his / her land in Kodagu.

You have mixed two issues. To preserve Kodagu for Kodava’s in no stretch of imagination means not to have respect or love for India. The question is about preserving something we have inherited from our ancestors to pass on to the next generations. We kodava’s worship our ancestors and immortalize them by having Kaimada’s on our land. From this perspective selling our lands amounts to selling our gods!! I would do all in my reach to preserve and cherish my ancestors and the land I have inherited from them. Trust you have the strength and wisdom to do the same.
I agree with the above statements,and respect it,i sould tell you that i am an 2nd generation kodava who has been staying outside kodag,tho for better prospects we have left kodag,but we have made it a point to preserve our land back in kodag tho at times on loss, because we have made it a point that if our roots are strong we as tree will be strong,if you dont have your roots(Which i can mention in this contex as kodag)where ever you are it does not matter one fine day you tend to loose your identity may be not in this generation may be next or next,for kodavas who dont have land in kodag agree that you remain a kodava but you cant be called as a bangalore kodava ,mysore kodava or american kodava, you still will be called a kodava,and let me tell you dont consider yourself that you dont have land but you have your ainmana there,you have your kimada there you have your mand there,you give offerings after 10th day of shankramana at your ainmana(Karana Kodapo)and your presence is important at that place, so dont fell that because you live outside kodag you dont have anything in kodag and you dont have the right,but you may loose your right on kodag if your ansisteral property is takenover by out siders who dont understand the importance of the place, mind it why did we go out to other places,why kodavas buy property at other place thats because for better fortune,the same way outsiders buy property in kodag for their fortune its a game of business when outsiders come to kodag,and do you think they will work hard to maintain kodag the way it is, do you think they will respect your existence in kodag, question yourself have you respected the existence of others when you bought the property outside the same will happen in kodag,so i would suggest that we are minority community of the whole lot,it is very easy for us to get mixed up,we are indians first thats fine but indians from past 65 years but before that we had kodag we had our fore fathers who gave there life for that place,and its important for us to carry forward so that our future generations dont get mixed up and have there own place which they can say proudly in global scenirio that they belong to Kodag and there ainmana is in so and so place and he or she is born kodava/kodavathi and have there own place called kodag which is the Most Beautyfull Place on earth and we should not be immegrants to our own land.hence it imprtant that our roots become strong so that we remain to be strong in future as community as a religion,as family as a place as a land.So please take my example i am a second generation kodava who has been out of kodag but my identity lies at my place kodag,reson is because we need to make our roots strong at that place immaterial of where ever you are.Best example i would now like to give is arabasha gowdas who tho from surrounding areas of kodag,have now put themself as aborginals of kodag(Please check there website/or google it) and where are the Real aborginals of kodag fighting between themself, telling each other when you have the right to buy land outside outsiders can buy land in kodag, ask the outsider who purchases land in kodag if he has lost his land at his place if he has hats off,my second question if he has an oppurtunity to ask where he is from,if he says he is from kodag hats off again,or if he can say anything pro kodavas that will be great,you will definately get an answer that it will be an investment property at kodag,but he will still retain his land at his place,so its important to safegurd your house first before entering into nehibours house,because utilimately if not today one fine day you might loose your house and may be your neighbour may through you out,or your own exisistance as kodava may not be there as i told its very easy to get mixed up with majority communities surrounding your place.

The tone of your last reply says it all, statements without conviction. I am a firm believer that Kodava’s are smart and will introspect and reflect on the land and culture issues. I humbly request all Kodava’s not to sell your lands to non-kodava’s. Its our land, blessings from our ancestors. Don’t dispense with it…………. Sounds good to hear Mr.NRI, N R Kodava would sound better.

That resort was called earlier as just 'Parampara' and thier promo video was the same one.Later they started calling it 'Coorg parampara' to cash in the tourists from outside they renamed it.definitely what the resort is portraying is wrong and its not the tradtion of Kodagu.The sollution is to write/speak to Parampara and tell them that what they are portraying is wrong and they have choice either to make the changes in video or the resort name,otherwise we will spread the news that the video is not the true 'Coorg Parampara' and they should be carefull about the bad publicity.

Now about a small correction from T.K Uncle's comments.Arebashe Gowdas are not claiming anything and our official website does not say anything like that ( www.kdkgowdas.com) we recognise ourself as the farmer community spread across Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu and embraced different occupations and out of which agriculture is one of the largest.What T.K gave is half biled info [ As usual :-) ]

The blog is named Kodagu Community with an intention to include people from all caste/religion/faith of Kodagu. If Kodavas dominate this blog with their thoughts, I just can’t help it. I can’t delete comments to make it sound artificial or make it a level playing field. “Let water find its own level” is my philosophy.
Like it happens with all the blogs across the globe, comments often deviate from the original post and it is for the readers to judge and decide what is right for them. I am not a headmaster to sit and cane people who go astray. I can intervene in certain circumstances, but not always. I don’t want to put in my comment on all the posts to sound monopolistic. I leave it to readers’ discretion to judge the posts and comments.
Also, this blog is not a platform to advertise www.kdkgowdas.com. It is called surrogate advertising and I hate when people use comments space to promote their product.
Honestly, I follow a lot of blogs and if a blog is interesting, I go back to that blog without complaining to the blog owner about negative comments. It is upto me to decide whether to read that blog or not. I guess you got the drift.

One clarification.. Nobody tried to advertise the said website here and nobody is doing a surrogate advertising.I think only on 4 occassions the website name had featured here in this blog.
1) A comentator named 'Gapanna' addressed you mentioning abt the site.U dint comment and he dint probe...
2) Bhavan Kocahna gives a clarification for the same ( Infact tries to give a PEACE message to all of you which is mistaken as advertisement)
3)A wrong information is given in this discussion forum from another blogger
4) I comment on the wrong info and try to clarify.
Now thats not called advertisement.Besides/Infact we are giving advertisement to your blog in the said site by featuring u there.You know when i first heard about this blog in June/july it was only 80+ memmbers in 2+years and now your member count is 103, that means you've had 20+ members in 02 months.
So u do the math and understand why it is so.
Now the said website is not a commercial site for it to get advertised here and even if it is one,Kodavas are not thier customers and if gowdas are thier customers all the gowdas who are members of this blog are already a customer of the site.So it does not need a advertisement here. for that matter you have already advertised Club Mahindra,Mahidnra Great esacpe( or whatever) and now Coorg Parampara ( for them bad publicity turns out to be a good pucblicity eventually)
Like u have insisted many times that this blog is non commnercial one,the said site is also a purely service oriented non commercial site.

I am late on this discussion.
Look at North east, where the natives have sold out their lands and they have inturn become naxalites. If possible , we could prevent it.
And as far as I am concerned, I live and work out of Blore - but that has not meant that I have lost any bit of Kodavaness in me. I avoid the fancy Kodava functions in Blore - but ensure I am at my village to participate in any matter. I certainly not willing to lose the ROOT. I just love my district and feel to be lucky to be from Coorg. I am glad that my forefathers have gifted me a place which is full of green trees and fresh water. I am no way giving it to anyone - it belongs to my kids. I dont like to be called as a Kodava without an indentity in Kodagu.

Understand this clearly,the site did not look out for surrogate advertisement anywhere(especially here at kodagucommunity.com).It is a wrong statement from you about that.because it is not a product to be marketed here (to a wrong target audience).Customers for that site are the needy community people not the members of Kodagu Community.com.And nothing that site gains out of an advertisement and that too here.

Iam a coorgie and i would like to say when i work outside and have a land outside coorg, Its not fair in my part to stop any other person from buying land in coorg,May be a site.i,e If there is a person willing to sell. somebody above said """"In most cases working outside is a means to channelize resources for his / her land in Kodagu"""".If you can do that why not another person outside do the same.If any otsider buys a land i would say he needs to have a social responsibilty,Not disturb the eco system.
I would also say, any body can buy a land in coorg if there is a land available for them to buy.Nobody can stop this..If u stop this u have gone *$$$$$$$$$$

Few years back when there was proposal of starting the Medical & engg. college in Madikeri..lot of them objected for few silly reason, when Pub culture was suppose to start in Madikeri some pple objected it.. they had a reason to stop it..
now where is that unity in us..are we still thinking that Coorg is the right place for our living.. then y after the valu of the coffee dropped..around 35% of the Estates were sold & pple left Coorg. We proudly tell that we are Worriors, we are pple of land, farmers... but now just walk down the lanes of Virajpet, we can find more pple speaking Malayalam the Coorgi, Walk down the lanes of Madikeri.. u will find more pple speaking Tamil then Coorgi...
Gonnicoppa... More Kannada then coorgi... go & compare the present coorgi wedding & the older coorgi wedding... dont we think we have changed a lot... are u read to welcome some one to ur house & allow him to change the way her wants...then hw can u allow the pple from out, with money,,,, & we allow them the change the place we live the way they want....
just think about this.... its our administration or its we who is doing this.... why dont we have a rules for our little small place..
Let the district administration pass this.. if not im sure... coorg is next goa....
I have started to pray..to spare my little beautiful town.. where pple were more on then road enjoying the fog, mist warm summer, cold winter... rain,,, flowing water....

Out of all these 37 comments here I liked the very first paragraph you posted.Very constructive comment.You said "That resort was called earlier as just 'Parampara' and thier promo video was the same one.Later they started calling it 'Coorg parampara' to cash in the tourists from outside they renamed it.definitely what the resort is portraying is wrong and its not the tradtion of Kodagu.The sollution is to write/speak to Parampara and tell them that what they are portraying is wrong and they have choice either to make the changes in video or the resort name,otherwise we will spread the news that the video is not the true 'Coorg Parampara' and they should be carefull about the bad publicity".
This is very much what a person can do than debating.Appreciate it.
Guys Back, sorry was away yesterday,let me gvew my costructive feed back,first and foremost we need to stop unwanted publicity on kodag,such as this one,with regard to parampara it is important we write to them and convay the message or we can file a case also if required,2ndly all the natives of kodagu,kodavas in perticular each one of us present here take a oth that we shall not sell our land to any outsiders at any cost,lets see if we are true in our act why will kodag go to others,whichever native doesnot has land let them start to buy there native land,use all the methords let in a nonvoilent manner all the natives of kodag join hands in this struggle to safegurd our kodag,if it ultimately doesnot happen over a periiod of time,let us get for the ultimate thats targetted wipeing out of outsiders on a slow pace targeting those outsiders who own the land,ultimately that will be the only alternate that will be left,not only that try and target all natives in perticular who have sold there land,who have sold themself for money,thats the ultimate left,dont be scared to take up arms,because thats the only option which will be left,history has shown it and it will be repeted one fine day.

Hey mate hidalgo,dont tell other posts were nothing,other posts did have a meaning if not every posts,it did spread a meaning to be alert not to sell your native land to outsiders,which means outsiders are there to come for there own benifit and notprotect our land,the message was clearly passed.
T.K. Why's this safeguarding the environment has to become an "outsiders" (vs "insiders")issue? It should be every human being's responsibility to protect the environment for the future generations, wherever they are, be it in Kodagu or elsewhere in the world. All "outsiders" are not culprits just like all "insiders" are not angels. We all have to work within the framework of our own personal belief system and the political system to make this happen and not make it a caste or a creed based issue.
In other words, if you deny an "outsider" to buy land in Kodagu to safeguard the "Kodagu parampara" what will you do with a Kodava, if he does not safeguard the "Kodagu parampara"?

Well mate come to the reality,and you will come to know who is crazy and who is gone nuts,when the truth is brought people like you have one thing in mind,to underestimate others,thats what i call as GAP in our community, underestimate,demotivate and you get happiness doing that,through out the history of mankind its only the crazy people who have achived what they want,so you can think crazy or nuts about me,those words are equal to my "p" for me but all i would like to tell is have balls to face reality and fight for it.Be kodava for kodag, only a few people in india have there own place and can be called there own kodag is one save it before you lose it.
