MADIKERI: Madikeri Dasara celebrations concluded with the grand procession of “dashamantaps” (10 bedecked chariots) in the city after Thursday midnight and culminating in the puja at the “Banni mantapa” at Mahadevpet on Friday morning.

Over two lakh people including the locals witnessed the procession of the Dashamantapas. Each of the Dashamantapa was distinct and outdid the other in terms of size, design, size and concept thereby enthralling the spectators.
Pete Sri Rama Mandira had taken the responsibility of Dashamantapas. The temple has been taking lead of the event since 150 years now, right from the era when Kodagu was ruled by Haleri dynasty.

‘Mahavishnumaye’ of Gaulibeedi Sri Kanchi Kamakshi temple won the first prize, while ‘Bhandasura Vadhe’ of Kundurumotte Sri Chautimariyamma temple and ‘Shanmukha killing Tharakasura’ of Chikkapete Sri Dandi Mariyamma temple shared the second prize. ‘Ugra Roopi Ganapati v/s Yamadharmaraja’ by Kote Sri Mahaganapathy temple pocked the third prize.
The entire Madikeri city was decorated with lights and embellishments to host the historic Madikeri Dasara festival. Not just the temples, even government buildings, commercial complexes, private buildings and many houses were embellished for the festival, adding to glitz. Security was beefed up so as to avoid any untoward incident.
