KODAGU IN DARKNESS:NO FOURWHEELER FOR QUICK ACTION.

When enquired about the delay in repairing the lines it is clearly came to know that both KPTCL and SESC have no facility of fouwheeler jeep in the district.

Not only this, the whole electricity episode is controlled by the Mysore division. The local officers have announced the official load shedding between 6.30 P.M. to 9.30 P.M. Irrespective of this the load shedding continues during midnight also without the knowledge of the local officials or staff. Whenever the consumer needs information about this the phones will be in switched off mode as locally the concerned persons cannot clarify the power cut. All decisions and controlling is managed by the Mysore division administration who even did not inform the timings to local officers. This has become a nuisance for the local officers. The diesel sanctioning to Kodagu is Rs.2 lakh for three months. This amount is not at all sufficient for the vehicles as the geographical structure needs more diesel to move in the hilly area. Whenever, the local officers humbly put forth their demand for more diesel they may get a lakh amount more. but during rainy season the department incur more than Rs. 6 lakh expenditure for diesel for three months. All these problems are not at all attended or seriously taken by Mysore division officials and they neglect Kodagu as if they have taken it granted.

so ... who brings these to the notice - This problem is just not related to a Kodava alone - but Kodagu itself.
Now imagine this [and forget the Jeans/Cowboy hat etc for a moment] - IF The powers were local and admin was local - comments please..

and.. Oh! - the state Govt has appointed Renukacharya as the Minister incharge of Kodagu - Iam sure he has huge motivation to develop Kodagu.

Similarly - The current CMC chief has banned plastics in Madikeri - Go into the town and you will see retailers giving out cloth bag!. Three cheers to the current Chief - the difference is CMC chief belongs to Kodagu and he thinks about the welfare of Kodagu.
While at it , I am not stating that YOu dont care about Kodagu - but atleast if there is some movement for Kodagu - it gets noticed and things get better. CNC is one such Org which is attempting to that. You form another movement and if it helps Kodagu then I will support you.

@ anon.. well here is a small brief on our(non kodavas) contribution to coorg ..

1)We are the largest pool of estate labour,businessmen,entrepreneurs,teachers and other professions available in Kodagu.Without these communities the Kodavas have to keep aside thier fancy jeans n cow boy hats,club culture n step in to the real hardwork to make your fancy figures of 400 cr revenue to govt as real

2)We were the people who connected Kodagu to the other mainland.Be it the Haleri Kings, Tamil Chettiars ( who combined have more land than kodavas in entire Kodagu). Mapillas who traded essential to your grandpa & granny's, Malayalis who came as labourers in estates,Gowdas who actually filled the vacum in Kodagu when tippu took ur uncles to convert in to islam etc..

3)These above two reasons, makes us as largest pool of voters in Kodagu.

So thats the power of democracy.Now for an instant lets believe that you dont believe in democracy, now that makes the other communities to revolt against you like maoists before you polish ur double barrels.I am no malayali,no tamil and no maoist, but just imagine the tamils & malayalis joining maoists and beat ur shit out coz u n ur grandpa kicked thier asses for decades.Funny :-)

As I see it……the question is “How to improve infrastructure, administration, conservation & facilities in Codagu”. However, the discussion is getting overshadowed by politicians, their deeds. Likewise the argument about shortage of labor etc…does not hold much water.

I personally cannot believe that the current set up can honestly work for the betterment of Codagu or Codava. I speak from experience

I see a kind of nervousness or shyness in some Codavas to overtly ask for statehood which is a genuine demand. The question of protecting ones culture and land should be spoken loud and clear without scope for misunderstanding. Coorgs are the dominant community in Codagu and we want to preserve our culture and improve Codagu. Historically, this stance is the foundation for creation of nations and states. By working within the options available under the constitution of India, no one becomes less patriotic.

The CNC…..I have not met Mr.Nachappa personally, therefore I refrain from commenting or supporting him. However, I personally know some people who have been working with him example Kalyanda Prakash, he is good person with genuine interest to save and improve Codagu. Also he is sound coffee planter and I would not buy the allegation of amassing money through CNC.

In the current environment I only see CNC as the true representatives of Codavas and a dedicated organization which can bring about the change.

I agree. Instead of creating a seperate state or region, we need educated and self-less people in politics. Only then can Coorg improve. The current lot have not done anything except making promises during election time. I think we should throw the whole lot out during the next election and vote for people who can make a difference.
The recent MLC elections saw T John being elected.......a liquor baron and industrialist. HAs he done anything for Coorg when he was a minister and do you think he will done anything for the district in the future?

this is my view , rather than creating a separate state try to improve or preserve what we have in our hand now , because seperation can lead to some other problems ,after the seperation it will create problems like dicremenation of others like gowdas, vokkaligas, and others. instead of this if we are concerned about our land try to preserve whats is our culture and tradition and more importantly the land , try to enter politics and do good and improve it , if u have power u can do anything but the person who wanna enter should have a very strong heart and mind because politics is nasty , u change it like anything if u enter politics think who can do this, kodagu can be made one of the best in india if not in world, everything is possible

2. Give them a chance - atleast they dont have to go to Delhi for any approval [ unlike Congress/ BJP].
3. I seek admin only - this will have far more accountability. an officer from Kodagu cannot run away, unlike an officer from bijapur.

2. What makes you think that CNC will be better than the current politicians?? CNC appears to have ulterior motives.

3. The economy of Coorg depends on a single commodity. Hence is a seperate Coorg an economically viable option? Market fluctuations, climatic changes, drought and labour shortages are likely to have a negative effect on coffee plantations.

2. TK, you give me the impression that the demand for statehood is a "real estate" issue with nothing to do with culture and traditions. Are you going to prevent Codavas from selling their proterty? Are Codavas currently being forced to sell their property to non-Codavas?
3. Regarding the development of Coorg.....There have been numerous Codava MLA's and ministers. MC Nanniah, MM Nanniah etc. Nothing has changed during their tenure. How do you expect things to change under NU Nachappa and Co?
4. I agree with "An ordinary Kodava" regarding the finances of CNC. Is NU Nachappa making a financial killing in the guise of the statehood demand??

2. What if some of the Kodavas want to sell their land? Will CNC pay them the market value and help other Kodavas to buy the land and keep the land among Kodavas only?

3. Are the majority of Kodavas agree that the spelling of "Kodagu" to be changed to "Codagu" and "Kodavas" to "Codavas"? Who made the decision to change the name of "Kodagu" to "Kodag"? If CNC is a public, non-profit organization, why not have a link on their web site informing how much money they collect, from whom, how they spend that money, and more importantly, publish annual audit statements of their accounts from a reputed accounting firm? That will help increase the credibility of that organization. Also it would help if all the names of the Board of Directors, if any, of that organization is also published. As it is now, it looks like it is run by one individual without any accountability to the majority people of Kodagu for which it seems to exist.

5. If the politicians have neglected the development of Kodagu, why are the people of Kodagu continue to elect "do-nothing" representatives? I have read all the Resons why we dont need it but have you thought why we need it,we need it because the retain the 20%population if not more of gowdas and keralites will venture,immigrant population will increse it has happened from 16th century and it will still increse what is 20% now i can say will reduce to 0% in no time,also i agree asking for a state has no meaning but the an autnomonous kodava land is important to safegurd the 20% of population and there land the question in kodag is not only development but also how to safegurd the reduceing population and very existence of natives of the land,stat will definately not solve the problem but a autonomous kodava land where 75% of the landholdings are still with the 20%population,the question is how this 75% of land can be protected with the natives and not go to outsiders because if you own your land you own your culture,tradition and the place,so a Codava Autnomous Region is the only answer for this,by doing this we are not spliting karnataka but will still be with the current state but the only diffrence is the reporting with be to the governer and central government centen amendments need to be done with regard to the same, by stateing of codava Autonomous Region i am not putting down other communities in Kodava Land we will definately accommodate other communities with in the clause of Codava Autonomous Region,and also the autonomous region will be limited to 44 traditional Naads of Kodag by this even those communities who have a major land holdings in other parts of Kodagu for Ex lIKE aRA ASHA/kODAGU Gowdas even there centiments towords the land are not hurt,Hence it is important to carve out a seperate codava Autonomous Region,to safegurd the 20%Population left over,to safegurd the Intrests of the natives of that region(44nadds)and also the rich tradition and culture of the region and also with limited developments where required by not spoiling the eco system,and thats what the fight for autonomous region is going on at this stage bu C.N.C
