This subject used to haunt me from time to time when I used to hear about these marriages, but with my recent fancy with facebook this issue has started shaking my fundamentals. Too many ‘Nairs’, ‘Mehras’ attached to Bolamma’s and Accamma names. I thought we are unique and take pride to preserve this uniqueness. Whom do you think can be blamed for this trend parents, working outside home, living alone, friends or the whole community? Difficult to point one but…parents come to my mind as mainly responsible. I think it is their responsibility to guide their children. <br /><br />The second issue is, ‘are inter caste marriages good for the community’? in my opinion the answer is ‘No’, I know this position would draw a lot of criticism, but look at it from a practical point of view. What will happen if we allow inter caste marriages to continue? Every non-codava has his or her own religion and caste which they respect and in most cases they would like to impose it. Result our gods and festivals being forgotten or made to forget ! Codavas are ancestral worshippers, do you believe that non-kodavas would follow this unique culture …I think the answer is no.
